MONDAY'S CRIMES

Crime Fiction Week, brought to you by the Crime Writers' Association
June 14th - 20th 2010

Tom Harper in York

Starting things off

On the opening day of the inaugural National Crime Fiction Week, CWA Chair Tom Harper became the first author to speak at the newly-renovated York Explore library. With plenty of illustrations, he told a good-sized audience how he wrote his most recent novel, The Book of Secrets. He revealed how he drew inspiration for its multi-stranded story from being surrounded by York's extraordinary historical heritage, and how a chance encounter in York Minster library provided the subject for the novel.

Afterwards, a lively question and answer session covered a diverse range of topics from the free-will of fictional characters to the new Sherlock Holmes film.

Geraldine Evans at Holt Library, North Norfolk...

Geraldine Evans's talk, entitled Creating a Crime Series at Holt Library, 9 Church Street, Holt, Norfolk, NR25 6BB, was well attended, with welcoming hosts Alan and Meg. There were lots of questions afterwards and no one asked "Where do you get your ideas>!

Geraldine handed out her Writers' Tipsheets before the event, as well as her flyers for Death Dance, her next Rafferty & Llewellyn crime novel (Severn House August 2010). There were several writers or would-be writers in the audience and Geraldine chatted to them after the event and exchanged writer's woes. A good time was had by all.
